No deal calamity, or not

'Brexit fatigue' leaves British businesses unprepared for no deal https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/sep/28/brexit-fatigue-leaves-british-businesses-unprepared-for-no-deal?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Blogger The truth, as usual, will probably be somewhere in the middle. On the one hand a no deal Brexit day (29th March) will not pass seamlessly, nor (as some of the Remainder media such as the Guardian, would have is it going be the end of life as we know it in the UK. The most likely outcome is that ther will be a last minute fudge (which businesses couldn't plan for anyway) which will avoid serious consequences at least in the short term. So an SME ignore it strategy is not as irresponsible as some might make out.

A negotiation gone hopelessly wrong

There a whole slew of articles in the British press right now analysing what went wrong in Britain’s negotiations to leave the European Union. Many commentators are pointing out that it hasn’t been much of a negotiation at all - the British dithering and the EU Commission acting like an impatient school teacher waiting for its pupil to come up with the “right” answer. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/sep/23/salzburg-debacle-makes-choice-starker-for-mrs-may-and-mr-corbyn?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other It’s a mess and a tragedy for the UK and it may get a lot worse yet.

It’s getting dirty and ugly

Theresa May got a lot of mud thrown in her face at the Salzburg meeting of EU heads of state and now UK ministers are fighting back with dirt of their own - see  https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/sep/20/may-in-fight-to-save-chequers-brexit-plan-after-salzburg-ambush?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other   .  Sadly, tragically the only ones who will enjoy and profit from this mud-wrestling are the media. It’s definitely political high drama for the news junkies amongst us. I find it difficult to grasp how indifferent (according to pollsters) the majority of the British public seems to be to all this.

The New Project Fear

This article   https://www.theguardian.com/food/2018/sep/15/food-and-brexit-will-the-cupboard-be-bare-jay-rayner?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other  in The Guardian (which is admittedly a firmly anti-Brexit newspaper) is indicative of the new trend of sowing fear and dread for the day after 29th March 2019
